Since 1936, Genisys Credit Union has been helping members and communities navigate through economically difficult times, and the challenges being brought by the COVID-19 outbreak are no different. By providing proactive financial support and innovative service approaches to their 220,000 members, ensuring the safety of their staff, and providing community support where it is needed most, Genisys is here to help.
“As we navigate these challenging times and do our part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we remain committed to providing stable, uninterrupted service to our members,” said Jackie Buchanan, President / CEO of Genisys Credit Union. “We are also working diligently to help our members who have been or will be financially affected by COVID-19."
It is important to note that Genisys Credit Union is providing financial support and various assistance programs for their members who are being financially impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Each solution is tailored to meet that individual's need, from no-fee loan deferment options and debt restructuring to the option of a Relief Loan for those who need it most. “We have been pleased to defer thousands of mortgage and other loan payments for our members,” said Buchanan. In addition to financial relief, Genisys is also proactively alerting members of community resources available to help with food assistance, utilities, employment issues, and more on their Community Resources page that is a one-stop place for people to get the most up to date for local assistance information.
Genisys supports, donates to, or volunteers at more than 1,400 community events and causes each year; unfortunately many of which have or will be canceled or postponed in 2020. However, Genisys is not taking a break. They have simply turned their attention to helping to support those on the frontlines of this crisis. The Credit Union quickly created an employee-match campaign, matching all employee donations to help support the needs of local food pantries and homeless shelters, ultimately making a financial impact of over $15,000 for Lighthouse of Michigan. To support the most essential workers, our healthcare teams on the front lines, the credit union has donated several supplies of gloves and masks to local hospitals, as well as providing lunch to our local McLaren Oakland Hospital team every Friday during the month of April. We continue to look for ways we can offer our support.
“We understand the sacrifice all healthcare workers are making to help our friends, neighbors and loved ones that are battling this awful virus and this is the very least we can do to show our deepest appreciation to them,” stated Buchanan.
Genisys is committed to the health and safety of its staff and members. The availability of ATMs and 24/7 account access with mobile and online banking has allowed Genisys to move to limited branch and lobby access while still serving members in the drive-thru and ensuring everyone’s safety. “Banks and credit unions are deemed “essential” during this crisis and I want to thank the Genisys team for showing up each and every day to serve our members,” said Buchanan.
