(Oakland County), Mich. – May 9, 2016 –Genisys Credit Union, Rite Aid and The Oakland County Sheriff Department have joined to support the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 320 in collecting nonperishable food items for the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive the second Saturday of May.
"Stamp Out Hunger provides a great opportunity for everyone to make a big difference in our own community," said Jackie Buchanan, Genisys Credit Union President/CEO. "We are proud to support the local NALC branch with their dedication to helping local food pantries."
Letter carriers in Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Oxford, Pontiac, Rochester, Waterford, White Lake, and West Bloomfield will place donation bags in residents’ mailboxes. Fill with nonperishable food items the week of May 14, Letter Carriers will collect and deliver the bags to NALC Branch 320.
Each year 1 in 7 Americans go hungry. To help fight hunger, Stamp Out Hunger branches compete to collect the most food donated. Branches are categorized by size for fair competition.
"Two years ago branch 320, the North Oakland County branch, came in second place to Honolulu, Hawaii," said Vicky Haist, NALC Project Coordinator. "This year we hope to exceed last year’s donations of 206,265 pounds of food."
Total Stamp Out Hunger donations have reached 1.4 billion pounds of nonperishable food items over the past 24 years. Branch 320 will collect donations for local food pantries including The Lighthouse of Oakland County, Open Door Outreach Center in Waterford, and more.
