February 17, 2014, Pontiac, Mich. – OLHSA, A Community Action Agency, hosted its 24th annual Walk for Warmth event February 8, 2014 at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets. The community--favorite event, sponsored by Genisys Credit Union , saw 1,000 participants in the form of walkers, sponsors and volunteers. Funds raised supports emergency utility assistance, helping to keep Oakland families warm throughout the winter.
To date this year, OLHSA’s Oakland County Walk for Warmth raised $80,000. OLHSA will host a Livingston County Walk for Warmth event February 22 in Hartland. The nonprofit hopes to raise a combined $180,000 between the two events.
“Our community came out in impressive numbers this year at our Oakland Walk for Warmth. We saw new teams and teams who have been supporting us for years. The walkers had fun with kids entertainment, free massages and music performances. But most importantly, they came together to show support for their neighbors. To be at $80,000 already is an excellent step toward reaching our goal,” said Ronald B. Borngesser, OLHSA CEO.
Past sponsors and walkers, and newly interested people and companies, are welcome to send contributions in to help reach the $180,000 goal.
“We are excited about the dollars raised to date, and you can still help us reach our goal and make a difference! Any amount of contribution will help, as we are collecting through March,” said Linda Zabik, Walk for Warmth Oakland Chairperson and Public Relations/Community Involvement Manager at Genisys Credit Union.
In short, it’s not too late to help OLHSA reach its goal of raising $180,000 for Emergency Utility Assistance.
“This winter has been so brutal. OLHSA has shared that more and more people are coming to them saying that their utility bills are just too high. They’re conserving in their homes but it is not enough. They need the help OLHSA can give through Emergency Utility Assistance. Everyone can help and be part of the solution by giving to the Walk for Warmth,” said Jackie Buchanan, President and CEO of Genisys Credit Union.
