Jackie Buchanan, Hall of LeadersJackie Buchanan, president and CEO of Genisys Credit Union, has been inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders, a national honor recognizing leaders who have made significant contributions to the credit union movement and to the members and communities they serve.

Buchanan was one of 18 credit union leaders from across the country recognized during a ceremony in Washington D.C., in March, as part of the credit union industry’s national advocacy event. The honor highlights Buchanan’s leadership in building one of Michigan’s strongest, most financially sound credit unions and her commitment to strengthening communities through financial education and community impact initiatives.

Since assuming the role of CEO in 2010, Buchanan has spearheaded a period of unprecedented growth for Genisys Credit Union. A 30-year veteran of the industry, she has overseen a nearly 400% growth in assets, which now exceeds $6.4 billion, and a 535% growth in loan production. Under her strategic direction, Genisys has solidified its position as one of Michigan’s largest credit unions, currently serving nearly 300,000 members across a 32-branch network.

As the credit union celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, Buchanan attributes their success to remaining focused on its mission as a member-owned financial institution, understanding that a credit union is built by and for its members.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition. It is an accolade that truly reflects the dedication, mentorship, and partnership of the many people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside — especially the incredible team at Genisys Credit Union,” said Buchanan. “I’m grateful to be part of a movement built on cooperation and service, and proud of the difference credit unions continue to make in the lives of the members and communities we serve.”

Beyond her leadership at Genisys, Buchanan plays an active role on various community and financial boards. She serves on the boards of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, Velera, and is the board chair of CU Solutions Group. Additionally, she is the former board chair and current board member of Lighthouse MI, a non-profit dedicated to ending homelessness. Buchanan’s involvement has helped Genisys secure $3.2 million in funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, which will support the development of 229 affordable housing units in Michigan through community partners, Lighthouse MI and Community Housing Network (CHN).

“Hall of Leaders inductees embody the very best of the credit union movement, raising the bar for member service, advancing collaboration across the credit union community and advocating to safeguard the not-for-profit, cooperative financial services model,” said Troy Stang, Credit Union House Chair in announcing the 2026 class. “We are sincerely grateful for the meaningful contributions they have made — and continue to make — to strengthen credit unions and the members they serve.”
