Check Presentation to Food Bank(Auburn Hills), Mich. – Dec 13, 2018 –  Genisys Credit Union is proud to support two great programs working to feed those in need, the FISH Food Pantry of Grand Blanc and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. It is estimated that one in six people struggle with hunger and many people have to choose between paying bills and buying food. These organizations work tirelessly to help feed our friends and neighbors who struggle with food insecurity.

The FISH Food Pantry holds a feed the bus event each spring and fall. The fall event, held at Grand Blanc High School, filled an entire school bus with over 4,000 pounds of food that will go to the pantry to help those in need. Genisys Credit Union provided $500 to the event to purchase food and had volunteers on hand to help receive and sort donations that were dropped off. The pantry receives approximately 1,400 calls for assistance per year. FISH also provides clothing, backpacks filled with school supplies and Christmas baskets to families in the area throughout the year.

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves over 331,000 people each year in 22 counties and has been recognized as the number one food bank in the nation. Over the last couple months, the Genisys branches in Clio, Fenton, Grand Blanc, Vassar, and Marysville held fundraisers for the Food Bank and were able to present them with a check for $11,138.03. For each dollar donated, the Food Bank is able to supply 6 meals to people through their many programs like the mobile pantry that goes out into the community and the backpack program that sends school aged kids home with food for the weekend.

“Genisys is proud to support these amazing organizations,” says President and CEO Jackie Buchanan, “it’s important to us to give back to the community and help our friends and neighbors in times of need.”
